This gripping portrait of four women whose lives are dictated by moral codes explores the issue of honor killing in Palestine.
REVIEW
An independent Palestinian filmmaker, Khoury is founder of the Majd Production Company in Ramallah. She takes on the taboo subject of "honor killings" a practice in many Arab societies that justifies the execution of a woman who engages in any sexual act outside of marriage to restore the "honor" of her family. Khoury explores the cases of four Palestinian women: a Christian Palestinian whose murder is based on a false accusation; a sister poisoned by her brothers; a survivor of repeated stabbings by family members; and a hip-hop singer who is threatened with death for speaking out on honor killing in her songs. Employing a spare, unobtrusive style, Khoury makes the film a platform for many opinions in pursuit of her stated aim: producing documentaries that raise awareness on Palestinian issues.
