Amid irreparable losses, Keit tries to preserve the passionate side of his relationship.
REVIEW
Brazilian filmmaker Joaquim Haickel offers a heartfelt reflection upon feminine need and the survival of passion in the face of physical loss. Charles and Keit face major obstacles to intimacy after a car accident robs Charles of sight. In only 17 minutes and 18 seconds, Haickel explores, in depth, Keit's attempts to sustain desire against vast odds. He makes it clear that her plight is not without hope, and he provides keen insight into a woman's need for sexual fulfillment, a topic often overlooked. The strength of the film is driven by sympathetic characterizations: Amanda Acosta's Keit is smart and determined while Loucis deSouza portrays an accepting and appealing Charles. There is no underestimating the role played here by sound in "Through the Ears," from the seductive potential of the human voice to the evocative power of Brazilian/Portuguese love songs.
