POINT OF CONTACT
commemorates 30 YEARS of publishing

“Point of Contact remains a prime crossroad for verbal and visual arts from around the world. We’re honored to celebrate its splendid history by collecting so many visions and voices in one volume.”Nancy Cantor, Chancellor, Syracuse University

Point of ContactAnniversary: 30 Years
cover & backcover art: Ana Tiscornia

Point of Contact, the book series, commemorates 30 years of publishing with a truly unique anthological issue featuring a selection of some of its most memorable articles, which have now been reprinted in English and translated to Spanish. The translations will be published online this spring of 2007, and will be accessible to Spanish language readers world wide at no cost, through this website.

This special collector's issue includes original work by Patricia Barber, Thomas Bishop, Alicia Borinsky, Trisha Brown, Nicolas Calas, Eldridge Cleaver, Julio Cortázar, Pedro Cuperman, Mario Diament, Vicente Fatone, Christine Fawcett, Jean Franco, Carlos Fuentes, Haile Gerima, Gloria Gibson, Phillip Glass, Mary Karr, Mercedes López-Baralt, Floyd Merrel, Julio Ortega, Raimon Panikkar, Elena Poniatowska, Manuel Puig, José Sanjinés, Severo Sarduy, Owen Shapiro, Dina Sherzer, Joel Sherzer, Bruce Smith, W.D. Snodgrass, Robert Stam, Amy Tan, Wayne Wang, Andrew Waggoner, Douglas Unger, Peter Wollen, and Saúl Yurkievich. This limited edition is a co-publication of Point of Contact and Syracuse University Press.

"Point of Contact's 30th Anniversary issue is quite compelling, extremely brave, and most impressive. As editor, Pedro Cuperman, has  splendidly accomplished the difficult and subtle task of making the two American hemispheres converse about the best and most novel that  they have; the most adventurous and venturous, the swiftest, the  future, the intriguing and mysterious. A magnificent coat of arms> takes shape in the extraordinary selection of names and writings, a discourse in originality. Point of Contact can only ascend in its own synthesis, vision and generosity as it continues on its path, ever more lucid and vital. My sincere reverence and enthusiasm for  this accomplished work."
Ivonne Bordelois, Argentinean linguist, poet, whose recent work titled El país nos habla, (Buenos Aires, Argentina) received the Essay Award given by La Nación & -Editorial Sudamericana in 2006.

PUNTO DE CONTACTO / POINT OF CONTACT honored at the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, NYU
One of the most prestigious international cultural centers in New York City, the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at New York University, hosted a special reception to honor the 30th anniversary of Punto de Contacto / Point of Contact on February 2nd, 2007.

Point of Contact was founded by Pedro Cuperman in 1975 at New York University. Many of its original editorial advisors, currently distinguished faculty at NYU, are still very much involved in the publication as well as other Point of Contact divisions, as the organization has significantly diversified in the course of three decades. To this day, the publication continues to evolve as a venue for creative scholarship and original art, providing a cross-disciplinary space for world-renowned as well as emerging writers, artists and scholars. Point of Contact retains an international character, along with continuing strong ties to Latin-American arts and literature.
